Rita's Poetry in images of love

Pain

Mask of night
Threads of darkness
Crisscrossed
On the mind’s canvas
Fragments of memory
From distant yesterdays
Return
Truth-laden
Pain-laden
Temple flowers wither.

Desire

Deluging desire waits
In shadows of a smile
Beginningless, endless
Disquieting beauty- angelic
Lilac skin-fragility of butterfly wings
She is darkness
for you to sprawl upon
waiting
for the not-yet-born kiss

TERCETS and SHORT POEMS

Night’s embrace
Delirium of love
Time trembles, succumbs.

At death’s door
I stand and ask
Am I worthy of you?

I remember time
In colours of hurt
Yet I dream dreams

You missed the pathway
To my door
Every mirror I look into
Is broken

Only embers
In love’s ashes
Dreams take the graveyard road

Bindi

caste mark on forehead
fetters of nuptial nexus
symbol of trapped desires,
trying to make sense
of a fragmented self
or a mark of profound piety?
an intricate spiderweb of connotations
unseen in the maze
of stories on woman
in myth and history

but other eyes as do mine
see the bindi sparkling proud
like rising sun on stone
vermillion red smiles high
in beautiful solitary splendour

it journeys through myriad moods
as the tender sapling little girl
grows into a luxuriant tree
god’s blessing in beauty’s guise,
the bindi speaks

I empower
I endow her with sense of space
as I pave the vibrant way
she remains the soul
of this day

* Bindi is the red spot that adorns a woman’s forehead esp. after her marriage

Rita's poetry in Images of Love

Mask

a house on the river
waves lap at the door
red grass smiles tall

sunrise brush-strokes paint purple
diamonds glitter
on noon’s proud chest
radiant peacocks open petals
winged dahlias in twilight bloom

earth bathes in a rain of stars
chirping birds perched on moon
rainbow across the night sky

all unseen, unheard,
beneath
the masked surface.
